EDGE brings together a select group of international artists and designers for an exhibition of original works in multiple mediums with a key tie - collaborative wallpapers.
The exhibition is a visual journey of tropical, nautical and visceral themes brought fourththrough mixed media, painting, furniture, sculpture, scent, and site specific installation.
Miami native Cristina Lei Rodriguez unveils functional sculptures, new works on wallpaper and an 18 foot multi paneled textile mural in the exhibitions living room area. Fossilized Mussels (Silver) is the result of hand worked layers of epoxy resin, paint, concrete and gold to evoke a harmonious and oceanic mood.
The collaboration of Swiss design trio, atelier oï and Moroccan luxury crafters L’ Atelier Casablanca presents handmade leather trunks housing the suspended mobile and scented origami installation Honminoshi Garden as well as a retro-futuristic bar trunk which houses exclusive wine, champagne and spirits.
Brooklyn transplant Eric Bear, who's paintings extend to the collections of Martha Stewart and Isaac Mizrahi sets the tone for tropical modern at the exhibition entrance with his painting titled Nocturnal Emissions. The work is accompanied by a newly released wallcovering that includes highly detailed sections of foliage that were landscaped and manicured by the artist at his home in Little Haiti.
Los Angeles native and tape art wunderkind, Flëkz, creates a site specific ceiling and floor installation in the dining room of the marina lounge that will transform throughout the week. Flëkz works with Nitto tape to produce exceptional geometry without the use of rulers or measuring tools. Other works from Flekz include a collaboration piece titled Ritmo with Londubh Studio and a texturized wallcovering inspired by the work.
Istanbul artist Mert Özgen’s hyperrealistic portraits draw inspiration from the endless beauty of women described in classic literature. Juxtaposing notions of cosmetics with the use of wounds painted on the subjects skin. The two paintings are accompanied by a wallpaper mural of sharp blood corals and lavish gold metallic.
The exterior facade of the building has been transformed by EDGE Collections co-founders and exhibition curators Carl Pascuzzi and Phoebe St. Germain Fellows. White Petal Forest (Philodendron), first shown at the Wolfsonian Museum in 2015 has been repurposed to fit the grand scale of the marina lounge creating a tropical camouflage within the waterfront setting.
Hong Kong based Pigro Felice provides seating in the outdoor areas which overlook Biscayne bay and Downtown Miami’s skyline. Guests are invited to seek refuge throughout the week as the location is a perfect halfway point between art fairs on South Beach and Midtown and Wynwood areas in the mainland.
