Venice Design 2016

VENICE DESIGN 2016 brings together an international set of designers of diverse cultural backgrounds – young and senior, established and emerging. It is noted for being one of the inaugural exhibitions to showcase current design developments during the Venice Architecture Biennale. Participants from 17 countries come to present their ideas and stories: from the use of traditional thousand year old techniques to the most innovative technological solutions available.
EDGE Collections has been invited to participate in this year's exhibition with an installation designed to provide grand juxtaposition of current space and time with respect to the undeniable historical presence of Palazzo Michiel. The palace will house the exhibit in context of la Biennale di Venezia from May 28th to November 27th, 2016.

"We have repurposed, found, and manufactured objects with the intent of giving them new life and a sense of place within imagery that makes up each functional piece. Industrial cuts of steel, fencing, caging, wire, aluminum, glass, mirror, chain, paper and paint were transformed, layered, photographed, and reworked into the form of paneled wallpaper, textiles and decorative mirror, all with the intent of giving these items new life and existence inside Palazzo Michiel. The aesthetic relies heavily on the use of color, scale, texture, and depth of repetitive pattern. In this case, we use multiple metallic tones as tribute to the opulence of the palazzo. From a distance the repetition provides a transformation of symmetry allowing the common materials to take on a second incarnation in the form of luxury goods."

For Venice Design 2016, EDGE has collaborated with music producer Altowave – Daniel Boukata from Sydney, Australia – who has designed the room's ambient sound and musical score. Venice Design 2016 Participating designers:
